Lessons Learned – Part Two

“God is the only goal worthy of man’s efforts; the fitting end of human existence is a loving union with God.”

St. Augustine of Hippo

Last week I began a list of sixty lessons I’ve learned in celebration of my sixtieth birthday. When I hit a milestone I ponder questions such as: what has God taught me, how has He redeemed my past, where is He taking me next, and does my life glorify God? I agree with what Solomon said in Proverbs 4:13: “Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.” Join me in the rest of my reflections and contemplate if they are true to you.

  1. There’s no such thing as being stuck. There are always other options.
  2. God always provides. It may not be in a way we expect, but He always comes through.
  3. God allows us to experience rejection so that we find our acceptance in Him.
  4. We discover our value and worth in God when others don’t value us.
  5. Restlessness comes from discontentment.
  6. More, is often less, in disguise.
  7. We will never be at rest until we find our rest in God.
  8. We will never be fully satisfied until we find our satisfaction in God.
  9. God never disappoints me, nor lets me down.
  10. God’s love for me is unselfish, wanting the best for me.
  11. The bitter moments in life make the sweet ones sweeter.
  12. Those who chase after God catch Him.
  13. To live a life well, start at the finish line. Live with the end in sight.
  14. Trials are gifts in disguise.
  15. Who I am is not based on what I do. My identity is in being “Daddy’s Girl.”
  16. God is the cure for whatever we desperately need.
  17. We become what we behold.
  18. All of life is ministry. There is no separation of the sacred and the secular.
  19. Sometimes God’s discipline is actually His provision to preserve our lives.
  20. God’s grace is all I need to get me through the ups and downs of life. He is my life preserver.
  21. Before you can walk on water, you’ve got to get out of the boat.
  22. Love is the trump card. It trumps fear, hurt, addictions, offense…
  23. God will feed a multitude when I give Him what I’ve got.
  24. Stillness refreshes me.
  25. Remembering who God is, gives me peace.
  26. Waiting is difficult, but it’s not a waste. God does some of His best work in waiting rooms.
  27. God can transform the most unlikely source into what He needs for His purposes.
  28. Fruit from God’s call is His responsibility. My responsibility is to obey what He asks of me.
  29. Obedience brings blessing.
  30. God is worthy of my love, my time, and my attention.

“Jesus knew where He had come from, why he was here, and what he was supposed to accomplish. He came down from heaven, not to do his own will, but the will of the Father. What mattered ultimately was not the number of people healed or fed, but whether the Father’s will was being done.”

Hi Norma, For me, the most profound statement in your life lessons lists was – There Is No Separation Of The Sacred And The Secular. And I suddenly realized that He is IN everything, and He IS everything, and therefore every minute of my life, every circumstance, is Sacred. Thank you for such insight. I love you, and look forward to being with you soon. xoxo MK
